Chrome Tourmaline August 15, 2015 · 8 specimens 'Chrome Tourmaline' is a vanandium and chromium rich varietal of the species Dravite. Crystals from Landanai, Tanzania are most often dark colored and nearly opaque, with just flashes of green reflected back out of the crystals when held under strong lighting. There was a recent large find and I was able to select out the brightest colored crystals, some a solid emerald green and some grading towards a yellow green at the base. The first 11 crystals are from this find of mid 2015. The last 4 crystals were picked out of a small parcel of facet rough and have superb color reminiscent of emeralds from Chivor, Columbia. These were sold to me as from Landanai but they are distinct from any other chrome Tourmaline I've ever purchased from there. I'm not sure if this was a one time freak occurrence of lighter colored crystals or if they are from a different, nearby occurrence. |
