Thompsonite from San Benito Co.
November 16, 2022  ·  6 specimens

The New Idria mining district and Clear Creek Management areas are highly mineralized and popular collecting areas in the Diablo Range of central California. The area is rugged and  steep with elevations rising to over 5000 feet.  Minerals found here are numerous and include Benitoite, Fresnoite, Andradite (black, golden, and green), Perovskite, Karpatite, rare mercury minerals, Neptunite, Joaquinite, Artinite, Natrolite, Magnetite, and many others.  Thomsonite is found here too, but is not common.  In fact Mindat shows only a single example from the region.  I recently acquired an entire flat of Thomsonite from the area, collected back in 2014. All my specimens are presented here and represent a great opportunity to add a hard to get mineral to a San Benito collection suite.
