J146 - Agate after Shell $ 220 Dakhla area, Western Sahara, Morocco small cabinet - 5.4 x 3 x 2.6 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() Fossil shell that has been replaced by translucent golden agate. These are found on the surface, having weathered out of the surrounding rock formations. There are about 40 different species found at this deposit. Although they could have weathered out of different formations, they are all believed to be Eocene in age. Most are broken pieces and weathered and perfectly preserved examples such as this are uncommon, probably less than 5 percent of what is found. Fine quality large specimen.

C683 - Thaumasite $ 1500 N'Chwanning Mine, Kuruman, South Africa miniature - 3.4 x 3 x 1.3 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thaumasite is a rare mineral in the Ettringite group, the best were found at the N'Chwanning. Matrix specimens were always uncommon, and I have only ever had one before, a similar piece to this one that I paid a similar price to Katherine Woest about 15 years ago. Crystals are a transparent yellow and reach 5mm in diameter. White tufts of Xonotlite are dispersed between the Thaumasite crystals.
