T843 - Tanzanite $ 6000 (=~ CAN$ 0)
Merelani Hills, Arusha, Tanzania
miniature - 4 x 3 x 1 cm

Tanzanite from Merelani Hills, Arusha, Tanzania [db_pics/pics/t843a.jpg] Tanzanite from Merelani Hills, Arusha, Tanzania [db_pics/pics/t843b.jpg]

Good sized pink Tanzanite crystal. Pinks are uncommon and this one is unique with a dark blue phantom line dividing the pink zone on top and a more purple/pink zone below. There is a chip on a back edge, but the termination is good and it can be display from the front undamaged. Pinks are hard to come by, but for some reason perfect undamaged pinks are even more rare, even the best known fine pink Tanzanite has a chip or two. A beautiful and uncommon Tanzanite. Weighs 21.1 grams.

Stunning bi-color Tanzanite crystal of yellow over vivid purple/blue. This crystal has superb luster and unusually uniform shape, retaining an even 7mm thickness all the way from the base to the termination. There are two chips, including one on the back termination, but the sheer pizzaz and dramatic coloration greatly overcomes it, it's that pretty and unique. Weighs 13 grams.

Rare faden Tsavorite crystal, glassy and well crystallized all around. This style of Tsavorite is new this year and there has been a fair production of it. While not as large as they get, this crystal is on the large side, and the quality is as good as it gets.

Fine example of double terminated 'Beta Quartz' on Hematite crystals. A UK classic that is undamaged except for a couple places along the edges where it broke away from the host rock. The Quartz crystals are glassy and lustrous and, along with the bright metallic Hematite, give off lots of sparkle. A fine example out of an old collection.

Cluster of large, partially etched Azurite crystals from Tsumeb. Fully crystallized all around, even part of the bottom is recrystallized! There is a small indentation showing Malachite on the lower front face (possibly damage, possibly natural), and the lower backside of the back crystal has some indentations/contact from another former Azurite crystal. Otherwise good all around. These good large Tsumeb Azurites are very hard to come by now.
