Cluster of translucent yellow Prehnite crystals. Such yellow Prehnites have come from Merelani sporadically over the years, but never before in the quality that has been found in the last year. This specimen has big chunky crystals that stick out in various directions. Some chipping, but nearly a floater crystalled all around, a good one for the find.

miniature - 4.0 x 2.0 x 1.5 cm

Axinite on Quartz from Butte County, California, USA [db_pics/pics/SM615a.jpg] Axinite on Quartz from Butte County, California, USA [db_pics/pics/SM615b.jpg] Axinite on Quartz from Butte County, California, USA [db_pics/pics/SM615c.jpg]

A rare specimen from Butte County in California showing a cluster of bladed, light brown, Axinite crystals centered on a pair of water-clear Quartz crystals. The specimen is a floater with no point of attachment visible and the Quartz crystals are terminated on both ends. No visible damage to any part of this specimen. Murdoch, Joseph & Robert W. Webb (1966), in Minerals of California, notes an occurrence near the Feather River and Yankee Hill areas, but little else is known. Comes mounted with minreal tac in a 2-inch perky box with an original old faded label. A true rarity for the California collector.
