B928 - Chamosite psuedo. Almandine Michigamme Mine, Marquette Co., Michigan small cabinet - 5.5 x 3.5 x 3 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() Intergrown pair of crystals of Almandine replaced by Chamosite (the iron analogue of Clinochlore in the Chlorite group of minerals) from the upper peninsula of Michigan. Good sized with crystals to 3.5 cm (most found were less than 3cm). The old label indicates it was in the Frank Hess collection and identified it as 'Aphrosiderite', however Aphrosiderite is an obsolete name and Chamosite is the correct species name. I only have the Hess label, but this specimen is also shown on the Arkenstone website and indicates it was from the historical garnet collection of SMITH COLLEGE, Northampton, Massachusetts and ex. Dr. Gary Hansen Collection.
