US112 - Benitoite with Neptunite $ 1800 Gem Mine, San Benito Co., California thumbnail - 3 x 2.5 x 2 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Single Neptunite rising up between three Benitoites. The right Benitoite is very transparent. Undamaged. Very hard to find in this quality and aesthetic arrangement. .
AR37 - Benitoite $ 120 Benitoite Gem Mine, San Benito County, California miniature - 3.8 x 2.2 x 1.1 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Benitoite crystals were occasionally found as 'floaters' that had weathered out of the host crossite amphibole rock matrix. This is an example of a single large crystal with blue-gray color and a rough surface caused by the amphibole inclusions. Even though it's not dark blue in color, it does have the same 'cornflower blue' fluorescent color when seen under shortwave UV lighting.
J477 - Benitoite with Natrolite on matrix $ 400 Benitoite Gem Mine, San Benito County, California small cabinet - 6.0 x 4.0 x 1.9 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() Over a dozen cornflower blue color Benitoite crystals are seen on a white Natrolite covered matrix. This is a classic, ultra-rare example of Benitoite with fully terminated crystals and no damage. A small black remnant crystal of Neptunite sits on one side. The Benitoite crystals are highly fluorescent under SW Ultraviolet light.

CT260 - Benitoite $ 450 Gem Mine, San Benito Co., California, USA thumbnail - 2.5 x 1.5 x 1.2 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() Cluster of 7 good sized, blue Benitoite crystals on white Natrolite. Largest Benitoite is 1.2cm. Some crystals are contacted along the edges where they grew against schist, but they have good color and are undamaged. Old specimen.
CT120 - Neptunite with Joaquinite $ 90 Gem Mine, San Benito Co., California, USA thumbnail - 3 x 2.2 x 1.5 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() Five chunky, well terminated Neptunite crystals on schist matrix. Largest crysal is 1.4cm. Also present are small brown crystals of the rare mineral Joaquinite.
CT367 - Benitoite with Neptunite $ 300 Gem Mine, San Benito Co., California, USA miniature - 3.3 x 2.5 x 2 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Benitoite and Neptunite crystals on schist matrix with white Natrolite. The highlight of this specimen is a 1cm triply-terminated crystal. The crystal has all terminations exposed and there is an area of natural indentation or breakage on part of the face. There is also a crystal of the rare mineral Joaquinite present.
CT415 - Joaquinite with Neptunite $ 150 Gem Mine, San Benito Co., California, USA small cabinet - 7.5 x 4.5 x 2.8 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Schist matrix covered by dozens of small tan crystals of Joaquinite, and likely many more present under the areas of white Natrolite. There are also a few black Neptunite crystals in association.
CT541 - Neptunite with Joaquinite $ 950 Gem Mine, San Benito Co., California, USA small cabinet - 6.5 x 5 x 2 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thick, lustrous black Neptunite crystals on a flat matrix of Natrolite over schist. This is an old Steve Perry specimen that I purchased from Steve about 20 years ago and have kept in my collection ever since. All the crystals are terminated and undamaged, the main crystal is 2.5cm long. There are small brown Joaquinite crystals on the Natrolite.
LL168 - Benitoite $ 2000 Gem Mine, San Benito Co., California, USA small cabinet - 5.5 x 3.5 x 3 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Large, deep blue crystals of Benitoite on a schist matrix with white Natrolite. Large crystals to 2.1 cm on edge that show areas of transparency (therer are some areas of gem rough quality).

Note this is NOT from the Benitoite Gem Mine. While not as big as those from the nearby Benitoite mine, these are rarer specimens. Ex. Chuck Trantham collection.
