Copper Collection - Part 1

21 Copper specimens from an old collection built in the 1970s-80s. An interesting mixture of worldwide localities are presented.  This is part 1 - there will be at least this many more specimens posted in the coming weeks.

Thick, wavy sheets and masses of Copper. Specimen is almost entirely Copper with a bit of rock matrix mixed with Copper at the base.

Mass of crystallized Copper with good crystals on both sides. Comes with an old Kassionas Minerals label.

Diamond-shaped mass of crystallized Copper that appears to have grown in a thin seam. Criss-crossing crystals of Copper are evident along the sides.

Heavy nugget-like specimen of Copper from Bisbee. Appears to be nearly solid Copper with areas that have retained their bright Copper coloration.

Sculptural cluster of crystallized Copper with tall branches of Copper rising up from the base. Highly aesthtic spcimen from a locality that rarely produces attractive Coppers.

Mass of solid crystals from the Bingham Copper Mine. This mine is the largest man-made excavation in the world and is considered to have produced more copper than any other mine in history – more than 19 million tons. One of the largest and highest-grade porphyry orebodies in the world, the mine still produces about 1% of the world's copper. Despite the huge prduction, Copper specimens from this mine are uncommon.

Black rock matrix (with included crystals of an unidentified species) with white Rhombic Calcite crystals (old Fraziers label inidcates the Calcite is fluorescent). Copper runs throughout the specimen, and is exposed in the central vug area, along with a small cluster of transparent Cerussite crystals.

Thick and sturdy specimen of Copper crystals. There are areas of trnaslucent white Calcite attached and bright, untarnished Copper is visible beneath.

Beautiful, slightly skeletal crystal of Copper. Complete all around and undamaged with a slightly irridescent surface.

Multiple somewhat flat sheets of Copper crystals that grew in fractures around the now mostly gone matrix, leaving a sculptural mass of good crystals.
