Jeremejevite

Jeremejevite specimens from a new find made earlier this year in the Erongo region of Namibia.  Jeremejevite has long been a rare and desirable species for collectors but good specimens were hard to come by until a relative abundance from a few separate discoveries in miarolitic cavities at the Ameib ranch over the past several years. The specimens below represent the most recent finds at this locality. They were found between February and April of 2010 when miners fortuitously dug into the bottom of an older cavity and found that it exended downward.  An amazing 18 kilograms of Jeremevite were reportedly found, though the vast majority were chalky, opaque and unsuitable for specimens. Most of the crystals found were etched, and unlike previous finds, there were plenty of matrix specimens plus some very thick, girthy crystals.  Some of the matrix specimens feature an etched Jeremejevite crystal surrounded by clay in unusual tube-shaped rock matrix.
